Canford Heath is within close proximity to the Tower Park leisure complex and Poole Town Centre, and benefits from the frequent public transport. It also boasts a leisure centre, supermarket, two public houses (The Haymoor & The Pilot) and the largest heathland in Dorset among many other fine traits. Due to the increasing quality of schools and size of property on offer Canford Heath has grown in demand and seen an increase in house prices over the last five to ten years.
The area is split politically into two areas, Canford Heath West and Canford Heath East. It is approximately four miles to Poole where you can find Poole railway station which connects the Weymouth to London Waterloo South West train service. Bournemouth is also roughly just six miles way.
In 1938, most of the heathland was destroyed by a series of massive fires, and only a few years later, it was suggested that Canford Heath should be "preserved from business development" after the War. In 1946, a plan was issued by Professor Abercrombie, which suggested the use of Canford Heath as a housing development, in preference to building in the New Forest. Building work began on a housing development in 1963 in South Canford Heath.
